Back in 1868, Captain M.W.Carr, a Britisher working for the Madras Staff Corps, compiled Telugu and Sanskrit proverbs in a book called Andhra Lokokti Chandrika with the help of Ravipati Guruvayya Garu, "the able Munshi to the Telugu Translator to the Government of Madras".
This book has proverbs in Telugu script with their meanings in English. This book is entertaining reading for anyone interested in Telugu language.
This book is a boon for Telugu speakers of the current day who understand English better than Telugu but may not have a command on written Telugu script. The actual proverb is in Telugu script with its meaning in English.
I plan to post all the proverbs in Roman/English script and these can be read along with their meanings in the book.
M.W.Carr's Andhra Lokokti Chandrika is now out of copyright. You can download the free ebook or read it online.
